• The purpose of this web site

    • To promote the development of software for the periodic inverse scattering transform.

The Osborne Challenge is to make the software useful to folks, even if they are not experts in the mathematics of the inverse scattering transform.

  • This web site is dedicated to the search for numerical algorithms

    • Specifically algorithms for the Generalized Fourier Transform (GTF) are addressed.

The GFT is based upon the use of the Inverse Scattering Transform (IST) as solutions of particular integrable partial differential equations with periodic boundary conditions, generalized to higher order using Lie transforms (LT) and other methods.

The integrable equations considered in the present study include the Korteweg-deVries equation (KdV), the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation (KP) and the nonlinear Schroedinger equation (NLS).

Software will be added to this site as it becomes available to us.

  • Potential use of the algorithms

    • (1) Theoretical and numerical investigation of the periodic IST
      (2) The space/time series analysis of experimental data
      (3) The fast numerical integration of nonlinear PDEs
